Two New Books
‘The Toll-houses of North Devon’ and ‘The Toll-houses of South Devon’ by Tim Jenkinson and Patrick Taylor have recently been published. Toll houses were mostly built in the 19th Century turnpike era of road management and are found throughout Devon. Each volume contains photographs and accounts of all known surviving toll-houses in their particular half of the county together with descriptions of those now demolished.
