Summer Conference 2026

The Devon Buildings Group 39th Annual Conference
Saturday, 20th June 2026
Medieval Houses of the North Devon Coast

The format of the 2026 summer conference will differ from recent meetings in several small ways. We plan to meet at the first of the visits, Chambercome Manor, a late medieval courtyard house near Ilfracombe for both morning talks and the first visit. This will be from 10am for coffee and cakes, with talks from 11.00 to 12.00, then tours of the house prior to lunch between 1.00 and 1.45pm. After lunch we will move to Combe Martin, where arrangements have been made to visit West Challacombe Farm, another building with remarkable and well-preserved medieval features, most notably a spectacular (false-) hammer beam roof, from c.2–3.30pm. A third visit will be to St Petrock’s Church at Parracombe, which has a splendidly unspoiled 18th century church interior, now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

As usual, places are free for DBG members, but guests of members will be charged a fee of £10. Details of the day have been emailed to members, but please get in touch if you have not received them. Numbers will have to be capped at about 50 attendees; so we ask that members to let us know by 10th June if you would like to book a place.
